3rd Year CaSB: Biological Data Sciences Track

My name's Ethan, and I'm a third-year CaSB major interested in the Biological Data Sciences track. I joined CaSB because I wanted to explore how computer science can be applied to answer challenging questions in biology, and now as a undergrad researcher in the Aaron Meyer's lab, I'm working on improving tensor factorization methods to build more robust algorithms that analyze different forms of biological data in tandem, allowing us better understand the biomolecular mechanisms that drive cancer and infectious diseases. I'm also part of the UCLA Science Journal review board and volunteer with APHC to provide health services and outreach to the greater Los Angeles area. Most afternoons you can find me playing tennis (catch me at LATC or the Sycamore courts!), but off campus, I enjoy taking hikes to find my next landscape photoshoot or trying new restaurants to indulge my inner foodie.

3rd Year CaSB: Bioinformatics Track

My name is Alison, and I am a third-year CaSB major on the Bioinformatics Track. I’m currently working as an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Grace (Xinshu) Xiao’s lab, where my project involves implementing allele-specific alternative mRNA processing pipeline on Alzheimer's disease RNAseq data. I am also actively engaged in research developing the right schemes, protocols, and bioinformatics tools to identify different pathogens using wastewater genomic surveillance. Outside of lab work, I tutored and mentored elementary school students through Step Up Tutoring, a nonprofit based in LA. I was also a member of the UCLA Orchestra and Bruin Chamber Musicians. In my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, going to the gym, playing the viola and guitar, going to the beach, and hiking.

3rd Year CaSB: Biological Data Sciences Track

Hi everyone! My name is Melinda, and I am a third-year CaSB major who is interested in pursuing the Biological Data Sciences track. I originally entered UCLA as a biophysics major, but after learning about CaSB, I quickly switched my major because I was fascinated by the interdisciplinary approach to computing and biology - two subjects I am interested in. I am currently working in the Xiao lab, a bioinformatics lab where we focus on RNA. Outside of school, I enjoy figure skating and am a part of UCLA's figure skating team. I also enjoy baking and playing video games. Hope to meet you soon!

3rd Year CaSB: Biological Data Sciences Track

Hello! My name is Briana Nguyen and I am a third-year CaSB major on the biological data science track! I was a part of the Backus lab, working to better understand the interactions and microenvironment of different cysteines and synthesized chemical probes to determine which probes are effective in immune cell activation. In the future, I want to become a data scientist that focuses on AI in biotech. I am also a member of the DataBlog team and the marketing head of DataRes, a member of the UCLA Boxing club and running my own small business selling pins and keychains!

Secretary
2nd Year CaSB

Hi everyone! My name is Sunlan Lu, and I’m a second-year CaSB major interested in the Bioinformatics track. I joined CBS to become more involved in what our major has to offer, and to spread more resources to students looking to explore the overlap between computer science, data science, and biotechnology. Outside of CBS, I’m also involved in UCLA’s Medical Experience Through Healthcare (MESH), where students volunteer and perform free blood pressure screenings in the LA Area. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano and creating playlists, reading, going to the gym, and going on night drives.

2nd Year CaSB

Hey guys, my name's Ben, and I’m a second-year CaSB major on the data science track. I joined CBS looking to get more involved with my major's niche. Looking to break into industry as a SWE with pre-med as a backup, CBS is a great resource in diversifying interests. Aside from CBS, I'm also involved with ACM and LSSA. During class, you might find me getting shots up at collins or around latc. I enjoy listening to all things opium and finding hidden lookout viewpoints between the hill and campus. I'm currently on a worth it tour around LA and always ready to try new cafes!
