Joanna Rhim
Executive Director
4th Year CompBio: Biological Data Sciences Track, Data Science Engineering Minor
Hello! My name is Joanna Rhim, and I'm a fourth-year Computational Biology major on the Biological Data Science track with a minor in Data Science Engineering. I'll be the Executive Director for 2026-27! I joined CBS to create events related to computational biology and to connect with other students interested in the same field. I'm currently in Dr. Yan Wang's lab, doing bioinformatics sequencing analysis on oral microbiome data. Outside of CBS, I'm involved in CityLab, where I teach biotechnology to high school students. In my free time, I enjoy trying new foods around LA and exploring coffee shops in search of the best iced black coffee. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I joined CBS in my freshman year to learn more about comp bio and connect with other students in the major! My favorite event is the grad student panel because many of the students speaking actually did comp bio at UCLA as undergrads, so they can offer specific advice. Outside of CBS, I am in the Meyer lab working on virtual cell models and just participated in Bruins-in-Genomics (BIG) Summer--- a comp bio research program at UCLA. Super excited to meet everyone!

Hello! I joined CBS to learn more about the major and meet other like-minded students, and along the way, it has introduced me to many opportunities and resources. Outside of CBS, I'm in the Luo Lab doing trajectory analysis for a fibroblast to induced pluripotent stem cell reprogramming project. In my free time, I'm either baking, finding a new cafe to study at, or bingeing a kdrama/cdrama. Can't wait to meet you all!
Ryan Slohn

I joined CBS to connect with people in the major and gain access to valuable resources and opportunities that can sometimes be difficult to find, since our major has a relatively small community. Outside of serving as the finance director for CBS, I enjoy running with the club track team and working in the Xiao lab, where I’m involved in a project analyzing allele-specific RNA processing and its role in rare diseases.

Hi everyone! I’m Angela, a senior CaSB major. I’m the Resources Director for the 2026-2027 school year. I joined CBS to get to know the major a bit more and connect with fellow CaSB/compbio students, and I was on the Events Committee last two years! I’m excited to share what I’ve learned about the major, school, and compbio path, and I’ll be hosting workshops along with our new Resource Committee (please apply!!!). Outside of CBS, I'm doing research in the Xiao lab and volunteer through Bruin Vision Project and Science Olympiad. Hi! My name is Lauren and I'm so excited to serve as your CBS Publicity Director this year, sending you information and updates about all of our events! I first joined CBS to learn more about different careers in the biotech industry, and I've gained such a rewarding community surrounded by ambitious students. I'm currently conducting research in the Gu Lab and Hsu Lab, developing ML and AI algorithms for stem cell culture and imaging. Outside of school, I enjoy playing basketball and watching sports.
